Medical director in functional and longevity medicine
Dr Fernando Porras is a medical director who leads a clinic’s approach to functional and longevity medicine. His practice rests on understanding the whole person: their history, their lifestyle and their biology.
Training
Medicine, then primary care.
Dr Porras earned his degree in Medicine and Surgery from the Universidad de Ciencias Médicas (UCIMED), Costa Rica, in 2011.
He spent the following five years in primary care and preventive medicine. He cared for patients of all ages across acute and chronic illness, minor surgical procedures, and complex infectious and metabolic disease.
Alongside his clinical work, he mentored pre-medical students from the United States and Canada through VIDA.
Functional medicine
Further training.
Those years shaped the direction of his career. He trained in functional medicine, completing the ADAPT Practitioner Training Program with the Kresser Institute.
He is a certified ReCODE 2.0 Practitioner through Apollo Health, trained in the Bredesen Protocol, a personalised, multifactorial approach to cognitive health that brings together nutrition, hormone optimisation and lifestyle medicine.
Practice
Costa Rica, the United States and the UAE.
Dr Porras has cared for patients in Costa Rica, the United States and internationally, in person and through virtual consultation, with a focus on complex metabolic, autoimmune and gastrointestinal conditions.
Since relocating to the UAE, he has practised across regenerative and longevity medicine, including IV nutrient therapy, ozone therapy, peptide therapy, genetic testing, hormone optimisation, and microbiome and metabolic health.
